Digestive Health
Digestive health refers to the health of the digestive system. The digestive system is responsible for breaking down food and converting it into nutrients and energy for the body. Food begins its journey in the mouth down into the esophagus and into the stomach. The food is further broken down and absorbed in the small intestine. Water is absorbed in the large intestine and waste products are changed into stool before it exits the body through the rectum. When the digestive tract does not run smoothly or the immune system detects an abnormality, there can be various digestive disorders. These disorders include, but are not limited to, irritable bowel disease, GERD, cancer, gallstones, constipation, and diarrhea.
