COVID-19 Booster Dose for Moderately or Severely Immunocompromised People

Moderately or severely immunocompromised people:

  • Who have received two doses of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna)

Should receive an additional mRNA dose (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna) immediately after 28 days since the second dose.

May receive a single COVID-19 booster dose (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or Janssen) at least 6 months after their third mRNA vaccine dose.

△ In such situations, those people may receive a total of FOUR COVID-19 vaccine doses.

  • Who are age 18 years or older and received a single dose Janssen COVID-19 vaccine

Should receive a single COVID-19 booster vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or Janssen) at least 2 months.

△ A person who received one primary dose of the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine should not receive more than two COVID-19 vaccine doses.

Who is considered moderately or severely immunocompromised?

Moderately or severely immunocompromised people include those who have:

  • Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood.

  • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system.

  • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system.

  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome).

  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection.

  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response.
