COVID-19 Booster Dose for Moderately or Severely Immunocompromised People

Moderately or severely immunocompromised people:

  • Who have received two doses of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna)

Should receive an additional mRNA dose (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna)

immediately after 28 days since the second dose.

May receive a single COVID-19 booster dose (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or

Janssen) at least 6 months after their third mRNA vaccine dose.

△ In such situations, those people may receive a total of FOUR COVID-19 vaccine

doses.

CDC Expands Eligibility for COVID-19 Booster Shots

For individuals who received a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot at 6 months or more after their initial series:

  • 65 years and older

  • Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings

  • Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions

  • Age 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings

People who got the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, booster shots are also recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago.

Some people may choose the vaccine type that they originally received or a different vaccine as a booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.

COVID-19: Is Vaccination Causing Myocarditis and Pericarditis?

Do you have chest pain, shortness of breath, or a pounding heart? If you or your family have gotten the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, here is the latest information.

The FDA and CDC have confirmed that, as of July 26, 2021, Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) has received 1,194 reports of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of the lining outside the heart that holds it in place) in people who have gotten these vaccines. In both cases, the body’s immune system causes inflammation in response to an infection or some other trigger. Myocarditis can affect small or large sections of the heart muscle, making it harder for the heart to pump blood, which in turn can lead to heart failure.
